Transition backlog / force field analysis

Last year I recommended using a transition backlog / force field analysis approach to a former colleague and she has just told me that it has been very successful with her new project team (as well as being cool-sounding terminology to impress her stakeholders).

Her team worked on a force-field chart of the driving forces for change on one side and the restraining forces on the project on the other. The team  then had another lively and enjoyable session on how to amplify the driving forces and reduce the restraining forces. Each action that they identified was added to  a “transition backlog” to be worked on.

More background to this can be found in the excellent blog post at http://agilecoach.typepad.com/agile-coaching/2010/09/building-a-transition-backlog.html which started our interest in this
